Companies around the world are increasingly concerned about their impact upon the environment. ISO 14001 requires companies to analyze the impacts they have to the environment, develop plans for managing selected impacts, and manage them accordingly.
This five day course is designed for those individuals who are responsible for managing their company’s ISO 14001 program or overall environmental program, or those who want to further improve on their ISO 14001 internal auditing skills. This challenging course is best suited to those with some prior ISO 14001 or auditing experience, but
coaching is available throughout the week to accommodate those who are new to the requirements.
The DESARA Group emphasizes the importance of adding value from the audit process, so our main objective is to ensure that you are competent and capable of interpreting ISO 14001 requirements, managing your audit system, and auditing your company’s processes upon your return. We accomplish this by enforcing key concepts with workshops, case studies, and role plays throughout the first four days
of the class. The course culminates with a written examination on the morning of the fifth day.

- Understanding the application of environmental management principles, science and technology and how ISO 14001 supports these
- Understanding the audit system using the ISO 14001 guidance document
- Interpreting the ISO 14001 requirements, with emphasis on auditing beyond compliance
- Embracing the role of audit team leader
- Planning activities including audit program management, audit agenda planning, checklist preparation, and team management skills
- Reviewing and evaluating quality system documentation
- Conducting the audit, including interviewing skills, managing audit team members, addressing
problems with the auditee, and daily reporting activities - Reporting nonconformities in a factual, helpful manner, and where possible, equating them with
their environmental and financial impacts - Writing a summary report from your audit
- Following up on audit findings
